La Matilla is an important, albeit small, place on the island that never had more than 200 inhabitants. Today around 150 people are registered there, some of whom also work there in agriculture. The town, founded in 1550 is located on that pass, which Tefía , Tindaya and Tetir connects. From Tindaya it goes over the FV-10, the east-west connection of the island in the north, from Puerto del Rosario , up to La Matilla at 353 m above sea level, further east down again into the basin around Tetir.
