Being a film fan on Fuerteventura has been ever so slightly magical this past decade.
If you need an alien planet, Old Testament wilderness, Middle-Eastern dust bowl or mythical oasis - Fuerteventura’s where it’s at!
Fuerteventura has even starred as herself in the Spanish biopic “Solo” (not to be confused with “Solo - A Star Wars Story” - also filmed here around the same time).
It’s always fun going to the cinema here to see a film featuring Fuerteventura.
When sat in the movie theatre watching the island take centre stage, my girlfriend and I involuntarily let out a mini cheer when the first reveal occurs - much to the embarrassment of those around us.

So, you might think that us Movieland dwellers have glamorous behind-the-scenes stories to share. Well…sorry, not really! The truth is that the movie biz is shrouded in secrecy and tightly shielded by security. There are things we could tell you, but as much as we’d love to, we also love our livelihoods!

In any case, it's great to see the motion picture industry alive and strong in Fuerteventura, even though sets are usually guarded 24/7 around a massively oversized perimeter to keep out the Paparazzi and interested locals! Lucasfilm even supposedly had flights redirected during the Star Wars shoot so nobody could get a glimpse of the set from the air.

That doesn’t stop us mere residents from name dropping, though. While filming for Eternals, Angelina Jolie and her children dropped into our local China Shop for a browse, don’t you know?!
When a film shoot’s in town, there’s that air of intrigue similar to that conveyed in films like “ET” - where a quiet neighbourhood suddenly gets invaded by mysterious fleet of conspicuous agents.
Local workers suddenly get assimilated by the production. A neighbour stands in as Wonder Woman for Gal Gadot. Your car mechanic grows his hair and beard out of the blue before disappearing into the desert for days at a time to hang out with Ridley Scott.

Our homegrown blockbuster for the island is the brand new T.V series HomeInFuerteventura.tv , giving real insights into life in Fuerteventura and covering all the aspects of living, working, moving, holidaying and everything associated with our daily lives on our own island of beauty.
Our film crew for HomeInFuerteventura.tv might be very humble by comparison to the big studios, but with such glorious scenery on our doorstep, there’s a taste of Hollywood here for any movie maker - regardless of their personnel or gear!
